The Hilltop algorithm evaluates whether your website belongs to an expert organization or person or it has authoritative content and history and calculates its relevance and trustworthiness for certain keywords. If you start a search query on Google for a specific term, the search engine first determines the expert and authority pages that are relevant for this search term.

In 1999 the Bharat and Mihaila Hilltop algorithm was developed at the University of Toronto. Google acquired the patent for this algorithm in 2003. The background of this algorithm is that trying to calculate the authoritativeness of the web page according to its quality links and citations. According to the Bharat and Mihalia Hilltop Algorithm, 5 citations from the authoritative people from a certain topic will show your trustworthiness and expertise on that specific topic. While Google is buying the algorithm, it decreased this number to the two.
These independent sites are also carefully checked. So they must not belong to the same so-called Class C network. This means that the first three blocks of the IP address must not match and must not have the same domain name (conceivable variations are, for example, the same URLs with different endings such as “com” or “tr”). Direct or indirect connections from the independent sites are also not permitted. According to the algorithm, there is a dependency if the checked side A is in contact with side B, which in turn is in contact with side C. This also assumes that sides A and C are in contact with each other. The more incoming links can be found on a website, the better they are ranked because they are considered expert pages.

What is the Difference between Hilltop and Pagerank Algorithms?
The PageRank algorithm specified the number and strength of incoming links on a website. It was one of the most important tools for checking websites for relevance. However, the PageRank algorithm gave an incomplete picture because it made statements about the strength and number of integrated websites, but says nothing about their quality and authority on a specific topic. But exactly this quality is important if you want to assess the relevance of a website.
For this reason, the Hilltop algorithm is a useful addition to the PageRank algorithm. It examines certain search terms from websites and determines whether they can be counted among the authority pages. The Hub and Authorities procedure and the TrustRank are two other algorithms that serve to check websites. In the case of hubs and authorities (short: HITS), the value of a page is examined using authority properties and hubs. While the stroke property evaluates the number and quality of the outgoing links on a page, the authority of a website is determined by its external links.
The main task of the trust potion is to detect spam pages. The TrustRank first defines some authority pages (e.g. Wikipedia) and then tracks all outgoing links. Because spam sites are generally not linked at all, they can be located and assigned relatively easily using the trust potion.
SEO and the Hilltop algorithm
The Hilltop algorithm is also important for Search Engine Optimization (SEO). To rank better, collect as many links from expert sites as possible. For this, it is necessary to be entered in as many directories as possible with your own website. In order to look specifically for expert pages, it makes sense to look for websites that in turn refer to numerous well-ranked pages. But you can also actively influence the ranking yourself. To this end, it is recommended to create your own directories on certain topics, which are then incorporated into the website to be optimized.
For being an authority in a Knowledge Domain, you shouldn’t try to manipulate PageRank Algorithm. While we are saying that “acquire as many links from expert sites” we mean that you should serve quality products, services and contents to be approved by those sites in a natural process.
Due to inaccuracies in the calculation (not all expert or authority pages are always recorded), the Hilltop Algorithm is only of limited use to achieve a better ranking. In cooperation with the other algorithms already mentioned, the computing effort that arises at the beginning of the search via the search index can be reduced. In addition, the hilltop algorithm has become a valuable tool for detecting spam. Due to the quality criteria defined by the algorithm, websites that are classified as spam actually have no chance of attaining the status of an authority page.
Importance of Online Marketing
The hilltop algorithm alone does not bring website operators forward. It is part of a larger group of algorithms that should be used in combination with one another if possible. - The generic part of the domain name differs
